Well, let me tell ya ’bout this red brick thing, you know? Folks always talkin’ ’bout red brick, white brick, this brick, that brick. I ain’t no fancy builder, but I know a thing or two ’bout what folks like.
Now, they say red brick’s made of clay and water, see? That’s why it costs more than that white brick, which they say is made of cement. Fancy stuff, that cement. But red brick, that’s real, that’s from the earth. It’s got that good ol’ solid feel to it, you know? Like somethin’ that’ll last.
- Makes ya think of a warm fireplace,
- a strong house,
- somethin’ that’ll keep ya safe.
Heard tell there’s this place called the Red Brick Gallery. Sounds fancy, don’t it? Folks goin’ on about art and such. I ain’t much for that artsy-fartsy stuff myself, but I reckon it’s gotta be somethin’ special if they named it after red brick. They probably got all sorts of pictures and things hangin’ on the walls. Maybe even some of them sculptures, you know, the things that don’t look like nothin’ but cost a whole lot of money.
This Allegheny RiverStone Center for the Arts, they’re the ones runnin’ that Red Brick Gallery, or so I hear. Seems like they got a whole season planned out for 2024. Shows and whatnot. I guess folks like to go and look at pretty things. Nothin’ wrong with that, I suppose. Keeps folks happy.
And they got this gift shop, too. The Red Brick Gallery and Gift Shop, they call it. In some place called Foxburg. Sounds far away. Bet they sell all sorts of fancy things in there. Jewelry and such. Stuff I wouldn’t have no use for, but city folks like that kind of thing.
Now this Red Brick Gallery place in Foxburg, it ain’t just any ol’ gallery, no sir. It’s a cooperative, you hear? That means the artists themselves, they run the place. They all work together, sell their stuff together. Kind of like a barn raising, but for pictures and such. They probably got all sorts of things in there, paintings and whatnots. Maybe even some of them…them…whatchamacallits… abstract things. Can’t say I understand ‘em, but some folks do, I guess.
Heard tell there’s another Red Brick Gallery way out in Ventura, too. Downtown Ventura, they say. Right in the heart of it. That one’s got all sorts of artists, too. Emerging and mid-career artists, they call ‘em. Means they’re kinda new at it, or kinda been doin’ it for a while, I reckon. And they use all sorts of different things to make their art. All mediums, they call it. Paint, clay, metal, who knows what else. Sounds like a whole lotta fuss to me, but if folks like it, that’s all that matters.
They got all sorts of art in that Ventura gallery. Red brick art, they even call some of it. Guess that means pictures of red brick, or maybe even things made out of red brick. Who knows? Artists are a strange bunch. But they make the world a little more interesting, I guess. Give folks somethin’ to look at, somethin’ to talk about.
So, there ya have it. All I know ‘bout this red brick business. From buildin’ houses to makin’ art, it seems like red brick’s got a place in this world. Whether it’s keepin’ ya warm and safe, or makin’ ya think and wonder, red brick’s got a story to tell. And that’s more than you can say for a lot of things these days, ain’t it?
So if you ever find yourself near one of them Red Brick Galleries, maybe you should stop in and take a look. You might just see somethin’ you like. And if you don’t, well, at least you can say you went. Nothin’ wrong with tryin’ new things, even if you are just an old lady like me.
