Well, let me tell ya about these “facing bricks”. You know, the ones they use on the outside of them fancy buildings?
What are facing bricks, you ask?

Heck, they’re just the pretty bricks, the ones you see. Not like them plain ol’ bricks inside the walls where nobody looks. These facing bricks, they gotta look good, ya know? They come in all sorts of colors too, like yellow, red, orange, even purple! Imagine that, purple bricks! Who woulda thunk it?
I heard tell these bricks ain’t just for looks though. They gotta be strong too, but not as strong as them “engineering bricks”. Them engineering ones, they say they’re tough as nails. But facing bricks, they gotta be pretty AND strong enough to hold up the wall, or at least the outside part of it. They call it a “veneer”, sounds fancy, huh? Like somethin’ you put on furniture to make it look nice. It’s the same thing with them houses, just a pretty cover-up.
Sizes and types?
- Well, they come in different sizes, just like shoes, I reckon. Some big, some small.
- And some are made special, like them “climate-friendly” ones. Don’t ask me what that means, sounds like somethin’ them city folks worry about.
- Some companies, like this “Nelissen Bricks” and “Oliver Bricks,” they make real special ones, the kind you see on them fancy houses. They say they have “aesthetic and ecological” bricks. I say, as long as they look good and hold up the house, that’s all that matters.
History?
Now, I ain’t no history teacher, but I reckon folks have been usin’ bricks for a long, long time. Probably since before I was born, and that was a long time ago, let me tell ya. They used to just use plain ol’ bricks, but then someone got the bright idea to make ’em pretty, and that’s how we got these facing bricks.
Why use facing bricks?

Well, like I said, they make the house look nice. Nobody wants to live in a plain ol’ box, do they? And these bricks, they can make a house look real fancy, even if it ain’t. You know, like puttin’ lipstick on a pig, but in a good way, I guess.
Where to get ’em?
I ain’t got no clue where you buy these things. Probably gotta go to some big store in the city, or maybe talk to one of them builders. They know where to get all that stuff. But I hear there are distributors, whatever that means. Sounds like a fancy word for people who sell things.
So, there ya have it. Facing bricks. They’re the pretty bricks on the outside of the house. They come in different colors, sizes, and types. They gotta be strong enough to hold up the wall, but mostly, they gotta look good. And that’s all there is to it, ain’t nothin’ complicated about it.
Some of the companies make real good ones since 1896. I reckon they know a thing or two about making bricks. They even got some fancy computer system to design them, “BIM” they call it. Sounds like a bunch of hooey to me, but if it makes the bricks look good, I ain’t complainin’. And if you want special made bricks they call it tailor made solution, just like them fancy dresses them rich folks get, but this time is bricks.
Now, these bricks got inspiration from somewhere, I hear. Maybe from other buildings, or maybe from nature. I don’t know, and I don’t really care. As long as they look good on my house, that’s all that matters to me.

And if you need more information, just contact them brick sellers. They’ll tell you all about it. More than you ever wanted to know, I betcha.
Anyways, that’s my two cents on these facing bricks. They’re pretty, they’re strong, and they make a house look nice. What more could ya want?
