Alright, let’s gab a bit about brick design for the outside of your house, you know, the part everyone sees. I ain’t no fancy designer, just an old woman who’s seen a thing or two, and I know what looks good and what don’t.
First off, color. You don’t want nothin’ too crazy, ya hear? Some folks are paintin’ their bricks white these days, makin’ ’em all light and bright. That’s alright, I guess, if you want somethin’ modern. But I like them earthy colors, ya know? Like that terracotta, the brownish-red stuff? Or maybe a nice beige, kinda like sand. Warm colors, they make a house feel cozy, like a home should. And the real brick look, not painted, that’s the best in my book.
Now, about the style of the house. There’s them Craftsman houses, the ones with the big porches and all that wood. Bricks look real nice on them, especially if you use some fancy patterns when you lay ‘em.
- You got your regular pattern, just bricks stacked on top of each other, nothin’ fancy.
- Then there’s that herringbone, that’s when the bricks are all zig-zaggy. That’s a strong one, they say. Looks pretty too, if you ask me.
If you’re buildin’ a new house, well, you gotta look at some pictures, see what you like. Don’t just go pickin’ somethin’ random. You gotta think about it, you know? What kind of feelin’ do you want your house to have? Do you want it to be fancy or plain? Modern or old-timey? It’s your house, you gotta make it your own. But remember, keep it simple, that’s what I always say.
Some folks are into them exposed brick walls inside the house too. I seen it in some magazines. They say it adds character. I guess it does, kinda rustic looking, like a barn or somethin’. But you gotta be careful, you don’t want it lookin’ too rough. And you gotta clean it good, otherwise it’ll get all dusty and nasty. If you gonna do it, do it right, that’s what I say.
And listen, if you’re gonna paint your bricks, don’t go usin’ just any ol’ paint. You need the right stuff, the latex paint they call it. Otherwise, the bricks can’t breathe, and the paint will start flakin’ off, makin’ a mess. You don’t want that, trust me. I seen it happen, and it ain’t pretty. So, do your research, talk to the folks at the store, make sure you get the right paint.
So, that’s my two cents on brick design. It ain’t rocket science, ya know? Just use your common sense, pick some nice colors, and don’t go gettin’ too fancy. And remember, a house ain’t just about lookin’ good, it’s about feelin’ good too. It’s about havin’ a place where you can relax, be yourself, and feel safe and warm. That’s what really matters, ain’t it?
Oh, and one more thing. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. If you don’t know what you’re doin’, talk to someone who does. There’s plenty of folks out there who know about bricks and houses and all that stuff. They can help you make the right decisions, so you don’t end up with a house that looks like a dog’s breakfast. You hear me?
Now, go on and build yourself a nice house, a place you can be proud of. And don’t forget to plant some flowers, too. Flowers always make a place look better. And maybe a nice tree, for shade on a hot summer day. Okay, I’m done talkin’ now. You go on and get to work.
