Alright, listen up, y’all. I’m gonna tell ya about them bricks, you know, the ones you build houses and stuff with. We got all sorts, lemme tell ya.
Lots of Colors, I tell ya!
First off, you got colors. Man, oh man, more colors than a rainbow after a good rain. You want red? We got red. You want brown? We got brown. Heck, we even got some fancy ones, like them multi-colored ones. They look real nice, like a patchwork quilt, but for a house, you know? My old man, he used to say, “a good brick is a strong brick, no matter the color,” but these youngsters, they like the fancy stuff. Can’t blame ‘em, I guess.
Now, where you gonna find all these colors? Well, there’s places, lots of places. Some got more than others. I heard tell of one place, Brickhunter they call it, got thousands of bricks! Can you imagine? Thousands! Enough to build a whole town, I reckon. Then there’s these other fellas, Glen-Gery, they got all sorts of colors too, and sizes, even. From small ones to big ol’ ones, like a loaf of bread, only harder. They got these smooth red ones that are real pretty. And Mangum, they make them old-timey looking bricks, tumbled they call ‘em. Look like they been around forever, even when they’re brand new. Folks like that look, makes a house feel… homey, you know?
- Red Bricks: Good and strong, like my coffee.
- Brown Bricks: Earthy, like the ground we walk on.
- Multi-Colored Bricks: Fancy, for them who like the showy stuff.
- Tumbled Bricks: Look old, feel cozy.
Different Sizes for Different Jobs
And speaking of sizes, well, that’s a whole ‘nother story. You got your regular bricks, the ones everyone uses. Then you got your big ones, for when you need to build something strong and sturdy, like a wall to keep out them nosy neighbors. And then you got them thin ones, they call ‘em thin bricks, for when you just want to make something look pretty, like a fireplace or something. Glen-Gery, they got all them sizes, from little bitty ones to big monsters. The regular ones, they call ’em modular, that’s the word they use, are about this long , and this wide , and this thick . Perfect for most things, if you ask me.
Types of Bricks: More Than You Think
Now, you might think a brick is just a brick, but no sir, no ma’am. There’s different types too. You got your common bricks, that’s your everyday kind. Then you got your facing bricks, them’s the pretty ones, the ones you see on the outside of the house. And then there’s them engineering bricks, the real tough guys, for when you need something super strong. And don’t forget them concrete blocks, they’re like big bricks, only made of concrete. And fire bricks too, for fireplaces and such, so your house don’t burn down. Lots to choose from, ain’t there?
Where to Get ‘Em and What to Look For
So, where you gonna get all these bricks? Well, like I said, there’s places. You got your Claymex, they got good quality stuff, they say. And MKM, they got all sorts too, for whatever you need. And then there’s Brickworks, they brag about their bricks being strong and easy to take care of. They got experts too, to help you pick the right ones, so you don’t end up with a pile of junk.
Now, when you’re picking out bricks, you gotta think about a few things. You gotta think about the color, of course, and the size, and the type. But you also gotta think about how strong they are, and how long they’re gonna last. You don’t want no crumbling bricks, no sir. You want bricks that’ll stand up to the weather, and the years, and whatever else life throws at ‘em. And the color, well that comes from what they’re made of and how they’re cooked in them big ovens they got, kilns they call ‘em. Hotter the fire, different the color, just like baking a pie, I reckon.
So there you have it, a little bit about bricks. More than you ever wanted to know, probably. But hey, now you know. And next time you see a brick house, you can say to yourself, “I know a thing or two about them bricks.” You go on now, and build yourself something good and strong.
