Okay, guys, so I’ve always wanted a brick oven. I’m talking about the real deal, like those cool ones you see in old Italian movies. So, I finally decided to go for it.
First, I spent a whole weekend just scrolling through pictures online. I wanted to get a feel for what kind of design I liked. There’s a ton of different styles, from those classic dome shapes that look like giant beehives to more modern, sleek-looking ones. I even saw some that were built right into kitchen walls, which looked pretty awesome.
- Started by looking at tons of pictures.
- Got inspired by different styles.
- Considered a dome-shaped oven.
After I had a general idea, I started thinking about the practical stuff. Like, what kind of bricks do you even use for this? Turns out, you need special firebricks that can handle crazy high temperatures. Regular bricks would just crack under the heat, which would be a total disaster. I also learned that the shape of the dome is super important for how the heat circulates. Some people recommended a Tuscan-style dome, which is a bit taller. They said it’s more versatile because you can fit bigger stuff in it and the heat is more evenly distributed.
- Researched the right type of bricks.
- Learned about the importance of the dome shape.
- Figured out that firebricks are a must.
Then came the fun part – actually designing it! I sketched out a few ideas on paper, trying to figure out the size and how it would fit in my backyard. I measured everything like five times to make sure I wasn’t being too ambitious. I even made a little cardboard model at one point, just to get a better sense of the scale. Yeah, I might have gone a little overboard, but it was fun!
- Drew up some rough designs.
- Measured the space multiple times.
- Created a cardboard model to visualize it.
Of course, I also had to think about the cost. I did some digging and found that these things can range from a few hundred bucks to a small fortune. It all depends on the size, the materials, and whether you’re hiring someone to build it or doing it yourself. I decided to go the DIY route, which definitely saved some money, but it also meant a lot more work.
- Looked into the cost of building a brick oven.
- Decided to build it myself to save money.
- Realized it would be a lot of work.
It’s finally done!
It took a few weekends, some help from my buddies, and a lot of sweat, but I finally finished building my brick oven. I won’t lie, there were moments when I thought I’d bitten off more than I could chew. But seeing it all come together, brick by brick, was incredibly satisfying. And the first pizza I cooked in it? Let’s just say it was worth all the effort. It tasted like it came straight out of a pizzeria in Naples! Now it’s a cozy place in my home. I think I did a pretty good job, don’t you think?
- Spent weekends building it with friends.
- Faced some challenges but didn’t give up.
- Enjoyed the first pizza cooked in the new oven.
