Alright, let’s talk about this little project I did recently – making some shelves using bricks. I needed some extra storage space in my garage, and I wanted something sturdy and, you know, kind of cool-looking. I saw a few ideas online about using bricks and wood, and I thought, “Yeah, I can do that.”
So, the first thing I did was head to the local hardware store to pick up some supplies. I grabbed some decent-looking bricks, nothing fancy, just regular red ones. Then, I looked for some wood planks. I didn’t want anything too polished, I wanted that rustic, reclaimed wood vibe, so I found some old boards that had a bit of character. I also got some screws, wall anchors, and a level, ’cause nobody wants wonky shelves, right?
Once I got home, I started by figuring out where I wanted the shelves. I marked the spots on the wall where the bricks would go, making sure they were spaced evenly. Then I drilled some holes and popped in the wall anchors. This is important because you don’t want your shelves crashing down later.
Next up, I started arranging the bricks. I placed two bricks side by side for each support, leaving enough space between them to fit the wood planks. Then, I carefully placed the wood planks on top of the bricks, making sure they were level. I had to adjust the bricks a bit here and there to get everything straight. It wasn’t rocket science, but it did take a bit of fiddling.
- First layer done, I repeated the process for the second layer of shelves. Bricks, planks, level, adjust. It was pretty straightforward once I got the hang of it.
- After I finished building, I took a step back and admired my handiwork. It looked pretty darn good, if I do say so myself. The combination of the rough bricks and the weathered wood gave it that industrial, yet cozy feel I was going for.
I started putting stuff on the shelves right away. Tools, paint cans, gardening supplies, you name it. These shelves are strong, let me tell you. They can hold a lot of weight without any problem. And they look way better than those flimsy metal shelves you can buy.
Overall
I’m really happy with how this project turned out. It was a fun, easy way to add some storage space and a bit of style to my garage. Plus, it was pretty cheap! If you’re looking for a simple DIY project, I definitely recommend giving this a try. Just remember to use a level, and don’t be afraid to get a little creative with it!
