Today I wanna share something about the silica carbide crucible. You know, this stuff really took me a while to figure out.
So, I was trying to find a decent crucible for some experiments. I bumped into this silica carbide crucible thing and thought, “Why not give it a shot?” I started by looking around for where to get one. Found a place called “Glosil Silicaware Private Limited” in Mysuru. Sounded legit, so I contacted them.
Ordering Process
Getting in touch was easy. They had a listing on some website and I just called the number. Talked to a guy, told him what I needed, and he gave me the price. It was around 15 rupees, which seemed okay. I ordered a few different sizes, like 15, 25, 50, and so on, just to see what works best.
Delivery and First Impressions
- The delivery was pretty smooth. They said it would be timely, and it was. No delays or anything.
- When I got the package, I opened it up and checked out the crucibles. They looked solid, well-made.
- I noticed they had this carbon bond and some stuff to prevent oxidation. I’m no expert, but that sounded good to me.
Testing Them Out
I started with some simple tests. Heated them up to see how they’d hold up. These crucibles are supposed to handle thermal shock well, so I pushed them a bit. And you know what? They did pretty well. No cracking or anything. I even tried some more intense stuff, like putting in some silicon ingots. Again, no problem.
Later I had some questions, so I reached out to another supplier, “Gharpure Scientific Supplies” in Mumbai. They also deal in these crucibles. Talked to them about what I was doing, and they confirmed that these are good for high-heat stuff. Learned a bit more about how they’re made, with the carbon bond and all. Seems like it’s important for keeping them strong under heat.
Comparing Notes
I also found out that “Thrissur Tiles” in Punalur offers something similar. They call theirs “Carbon Bonded Silicon Carbide Crucible.” Sounds fancy, but it’s basically the same thing. I didn’t order from them, but it’s good to know there are options.
Final Thoughts
All in all, I’m pretty happy with these silica carbide crucibles. They’re tough, can handle the heat, and didn’t cost a fortune. If you’re in the market for something like this, I’d say give them a try. Just make sure you get them from a reliable place. My experience with the guys in Mysuru was good, so that’s a start.
That’s my little adventure with these crucibles. Hope this helps someone out there. If you have any questions, just hit me up. I’m no pro, but I can share what I’ve learned so far.
