So, I saw these things called “bbq bricks” online and thought, “Hey, that looks neat, let’s give it a shot!” I’m always up for trying new ways to grill, you know?
Getting Started
First things first, I needed to actually get my hands on some of these bricks. I found some from different brands. They’re basically like, compressed charcoal, I guess? Looked pretty solid, though.

The Setup
Next up, I cleared out my grill – gotta have a clean slate, right? I then placed the bbq bricks in it. I decided to stack ’em up a bit, like building a little fort of charcoal. Seemed like a good idea at the time!
Lighting ‘Em Up
Now for the fun part – fire! I used my usual fire starters, the ones, and tucked them under the bricks. I was a little unsure at first if they would catch, but after a few minutes, I started seeing some flames peeking through. Success!
The Waiting Game
Okay, this is where patience comes in. These bricks take a while to get going. Way longer than regular charcoal, I’d say. I probably waited a good 30-40 minutes before they were really glowing and ready to cook on. It’s definetely slower.
Grilling Time!
Finally, time to grill! I threw on some burgers and veggies. The heat was surprisingly even, which was nice. No crazy hot spots or anything. The food cooked pretty evenly, and I didn’t have to move things around much.
The Results
The burgers came out great! Nice char, juicy inside. The veggies too – perfectly cooked with a little bit of that smoky flavor. Honestly, I was impressed. And the best part? The bricks burned for a really long time. I could’ve probably kept grilling for hours!
Clean Up
After I was done, I just let the bricks burn out completely. There was hardly any ash left, which made cleanup super easy. Just scooped out a tiny bit of residue, and that was it.

Overall:
- Pros: Even heat, long burn time, easy cleanup.
- Cons: Takes a while to get going.
Would I use them again? Yeah, I think so! Especially for longer grilling sessions. It’s pretty convenient, once you get past that initial wait time.
