Okay, so I’ve been wanting to do this for a while, and finally got around to it – building my own little BBQ pit using bricks! It wasn’t some fancy plan, just a good ol’ fashioned, get-your-hands-dirty kind of project.
First, I cleared out a spot in my backyard. It was kind of a mess, with weeds and some old junk, so I had to get rid of all that first. I grabbed a shovel and went to town. After I got the land ready, I just simple arranged them.

Getting the Materials
Next up, I needed bricks. Didn’t want anything too fancy, just regular old bricks that could handle some heat. I drove over to the local hardware store and loaded up my car. And of course, I had to have barbecue.
Laying Down the Base
I started by laying down the first layer of bricks in a simple rectangular shape. No mortar or anything – just dry-stacking them. Made sure it was level. This would be the base of my pit.
Building Up the Walls
Then, I just kept adding layers, staggering the bricks like you’re supposed to. It was like playing with giant, heavy LEGOs. I made the walls about four bricks high, leaving a little opening in the front to add wood and stuff later.
The Grilling Surface
To hold the grilling grate, I simply left the top layer on one side and the opposite one, so that the grill grid can easily put on it.
First BBQ!
After all that, I let it sit for a bit, just to make sure everything was nice and sturdy. Then, it was time for the best part – firing it up! I threw in some charcoal, got it going, and slapped on some burgers and hot dogs.
Honestly, the food tasted amazing! Maybe it was just the satisfaction of cooking on something I built myself, but it was seriously good. The bricks held the heat really well, and it was just a perfect little setup for a backyard BBQ.
