Okay, here’s my blog post about my fireplace brick-painting project:
So, I’ve been staring at this old, dark brick fireplace for, like, forever. It just sucked the light out of the room. I finally decided, “Enough is enough! Time for a change!” I wanted that bright, airy look, and I figured white brick was the way to go. I’m no pro, just a regular person with a vision, and I like it, DIY all the way!

Getting Started
First, I cleaned the heck out of those bricks. I mean, years of soot and dust had built up. I used a stiff brush and some soapy water, really scrubbing to get into all the nooks and crannies. Gotta have a clean surface for the paint to stick, right?
Then, I used some dish soap in warm water, and scrub those bricks and made sure it all is clean, and the last step for cleaning I just used plain water to rinse all the soap.
The Painting Process
Next up, the scary part – actually painting! I chose a specific brick paint, of course, because I wanted the brick to do breath and last long. So, I opted for a matte finish, ’cause I’m not a fan of anything too shiny, and for me, I love matte things.
I slapped on a coat of primer. That stuff is important, don’t skip it. Then I picked up my trusty paintbrush and started to paint it on the brick. I didn’t want it to look to perfect, you know? I wanted to keep some of that rustic brick charm.
- First coat: Kind of thin, just getting the paint on there.
- Second coat: This is where the magic happened. I made sure to get full coverage, but still let some of the brick texture peek through.
The Big Reveal
After letting it dry, and let me tell you, patience is NOT my strong suit, I finally stepped back and… wow! It was exactly what I had in my mind, Seriously! The whole room felt brighter and bigger, and I’m so happy with how it all turned out.
It’s not perfect, some drips here and there, there are some, but you know what? That’s part of the charm. It’s got that handmade, “I did this myself” vibe, and I’m super proud of it. And honestly, It wasn’t even that hard, so I can recommend it to you guys.
