Alright, guys, let’s talk about cutting bricks. I had this little project in my backyard – wanted to build a small raised garden bed. Nothing fancy, just something to keep the bunnies out of my veggies. So, I got a pile of bricks, and then realized, “Oops, I gotta cut some of these.”
Getting the Right Disc
First thing I did was head down to the hardware store. I stood there staring at all the different blades, feeling completely lost. Finally, I flagged down a guy who looked like he knew what he was doing. He pointed me towards these brick cutting discs. Apparently, there are different types, you know, for different materials. Who knew?

I ended up grabbing a diamond blade. The guy said it would be good for bricks, and it seemed like the most heavy-duty option. Better safe than sorry, right?
The Cutting Process (and My Mistakes)
So, I got home, slapped the disc onto my angle grinder (which, by the way, I borrowed from my neighbor – thanks, Bob!). I’d watched a couple of YouTube videos, so I felt somewhat prepared. I marked the brick where I wanted to cut it, put on some safety glasses (very important!), and fired up the grinder.
Here’s what I learned:
- Go slow. Don’t try to force the blade through the brick. Let the disc do the work. I definitely rushed a few cuts and ended up with some jagged edges.
- Water is your friend. I used a spray bottle to keep the brick and the blade wet. It helps keep the dust down, and it also keeps the blade from overheating. I learned this the hard way – after one particularly dusty cut, I had to stop and let everything cool down.
- Take breaks. Cutting bricks is tiring! My arms were definitely feeling it after a while. Don’t push yourself too hard, or you’ll end up making mistakes.
- Score, then cut all way.
The Finished Product
It took a while, and it wasn’t perfect, but I managed to cut all the bricks I needed. The garden bed turned out pretty good, if I do say so myself. It’s definitely not winning any awards for craftsmanship, but it’s functional, and that’s all that matters.
So, yeah, that’s my experience with brick cutting discs. It was a bit of a learning curve, but I got there in the end. If I can do it, anyone can! Just remember to take your time, be safe, and don’t be afraid to ask for help (or borrow tools from your neighbor!).
