Okay, so I’ve always wanted a firepit in my backyard. You know, somewhere to chill with friends, roast some marshmallows, tell some stories. I finally decided to just go for it! I did some quick looks online, saw some fancy ones, but I was like, “Nah, I can build one myself!”
First, I picked a spot. Had to make sure it was away from the house, trees, anything that could catch fire. Safety first, people! Then I measured out a circle, I think it was about 4 feet across, just eyeballed it really. Used some spray paint to mark the ground.

Next up, digging! Oh boy, this was the workout part. I dug down about 6 inches, making sure the bottom was pretty level. My back was definitely feeling it after that!
- Then the fun begins, I got myself some of those curved firepit bricks.
- I tested the arrangement of the curved firepit brick, found the digging area that I marked was not quite fit, so I did some adjustment to make them perfectly fit together.
I laid the bricks in a circle, one layer at a time. Made sure they were nice and snug against each other.I added some gravel at the bottom, make the sturcture solid.
Finishing Touches
I think I did three layers to get the height I wanted. And that’s it, really. Stepped back, looked at my handiwork, felt pretty darn proud. I didn’t use any mortar or anything, just stacked the bricks. Figured that way, I can move it or change it later if I want.
That evening, we had our first fire! It was awesome. Totally worth the effort. It’s not perfect, a little wobbly in places, but hey, it’s my firepit. And honestly, it’s more about the good times around it than how it looks, right? If you’re thinking about it, just do it! It’s easier than you think.
