Okay, here’s my blog post about replacing fire bricks in my woodburner, written in a casual, personal style, with simple HTML formatting:
Alright, so the other day I noticed a couple of cracks in the fire bricks lining the inside of my woodburner. Nothing major, but I figured I’d better get them sorted before they turned into a real problem. I mean, those bricks are there to protect the stove body from the crazy heat, and you don’t want to mess around with that.

First thing I did was get on my hands and knees with a flashlight and really inspect the damage. Yep, definitely a few hairline cracks, and one brick was starting to crumble a bit at the edge. Time for action!
Gathering Supplies
I’m no expert, but I’ve done a bit of DIY around the house, so I felt pretty confident tackling this. I needed new fire bricks, of course. The ones I found are vermiculite fire bricks. So the preparing work I have done:
- Measure the sizes of the bricks I had.
- Empty the inside of my woodburner. Take out the ash and the old bricks.
The Replacement
Then the easy part began!
I found it’s pretty simple to put the new bricks inside the stove. I started with the back ones, carefully slotting them into place. Then I did the sides, making sure they were nice and snug against the back bricks and the stove body. It was like a little jigsaw puzzle, but not too tricky.
The whole job took me maybe an hour, tops, including cleaning up. And you know what? It felt pretty good to get it done myself. Saved a bit of money, and it’s always satisfying to fix something with your own two hands.
Now I’m all set for the colder months. Bring on the cozy fires! Just remember, if you’re going to do this yourself, double-check everything and make sure the bricks fit properly. You don’t want any gaps or loose bits. Stay safe and warm, everyone!
