Alright, let’s gab about them famous brick buildin’s, ya know, the ones made of them red blocks. Folks say some of ’em are real special, so I figured I’d tell ya what I heard.
First off, there’s this place called the University of Birmingham – Aston Webb Building over in England. Heard it’s a real looker with all that bright red brick. They say it’s so fancy, it started folks callin’ some schools “Red Brick Universities.” Imagine that, a whole bunch of schools named after a brick! Built way back in 1909, that’s older than my grandma, bless her soul.
Then there’s this Albi Cathedral in France. Now, this one’s a biggun, the biggest brick buildin’ in the whole wide world, they say. Been standin’ there since 1282! Can you believe it? Folks back then sure knew how to stack them bricks, didn’t they?
- Speaking of stackin’ bricks, some fancy-pants architects used ’em too. Names like Louis Kahn, Frank Lloyd Wright… Don’t know ’em, but they must be important if folks are still talkin’ ’bout ’em. They built all sorts of things with bricks, not just regular ol’ houses.
- And get this, there’s different kinds of bricks too. The best ones, they call ’em “first-class burnt-clay bricks.” Strong as an ox, they say, and no cracks or nothin’. But you gotta pay a pretty penny for ’em, I tell ya. They use these good bricks for walls and such. Makes sense, gotta keep them walls sturdy.
There’s also this Wegmans Hall at the University of Rochester in New York. Don’t know much about it, but it’s made of bricks, so it must be somethin’. And then there’s the CKK Jordanki in Poland. They say it’s one of them “multi-functional facilities.” Sounds fancy, don’t it? Probably got all sorts of things goin’ on inside.
Someone even wrote a book about all these brick buildings. Guess there’s a lot of ’em worth lookin’ at. I reckon if you travel around, you’ll see all sorts of brick houses and buildings. Some are plain, some are fancy, but they all got them bricks in common. Like this House of Sieves made by some fella named Francisco Cadau, probably one of them architect fellas. Looks kinda odd, but hey, it’s made outta bricks.
Folks been usin’ bricks for ages, seems like. They build all sorts of things with ’em, big and small, fancy and plain. From churches to schools to houses, bricks are everywhere you look. And some of them buildings, they’re real famous, like them ones I told ya about.
Take this Gadi House in India, for example. They say it’s got a real unusual look to it, all ’cause of how they used the bricks. I ain’t seen it myself, mind you, but I heard it’s somethin’ special. Bricks ain’t just for keepin’ the wind out, ya know. They can be pretty too, if you use ’em right.
So, next time you see a brick buildin’, take a good look. It might just be one of them famous ones, or it might just be a regular ol’ house. But either way, it’s built with bricks, and that’s somethin’ to think about. Bricks are strong, they last a long time, and they can be used to make all sorts of things. That’s why they’re so popular, I reckon.
And don’t forget, them first-class bricks, they’re the best. Strong and sturdy, just like a good ol’ country fence. If you’re buildin’ somethin’ that needs to last, you gotta use the good stuff. That’s what my pappy always said, and he knew a thing or two about buildin’ things. He built our house, ya know, outta bricks. And it’s still standin’ strong, even after all these years.
Anyways, that’s all I got to say about them famous brick buildings. Hope you learned somethin’. And remember, bricks ain’t just bricks, they’re history, they’re strength, and they’re part of what makes our world look the way it does.
