Okay, so I saw this idea online about wrapping a brick fireplace with wrapping paper to give it a quick and cheap makeover, and I was like, “No way, that’s gotta be a Pinterest fail waiting to happen.” But, my fireplace was looking super drab, so I figured, what the heck, let’s give it a shot!
Gathering Supplies
First things first, I needed supplies. Here’s what I grabbed:

- Wrapping paper: I chose a roll with a simple, modern design, making sure it was thick. You do NOT want flimsy paper for this.
- Scissors: Obvious, right?
- Tape: I used regular Scotch tape, but you could use painter’s tape if you’re worried about your brick.
- Measuring tape: Gotta get those measurements right!
- A helper: It is much easy to operate with a helper.
The Process (aka Controlled Chaos)
Alright, time for the fun part. I started by cleaning the brick fireplace as best I could. You know, get rid of any dust, cobwebs, or whatever else might be lurking there. Then, I measured the height and width of the fireplace, so the paper can cover all the brick fireplace.
Next, I unrolled the wrapping paper and, with my helper, cut it into sections based on my measurements. Make sure to leave extra paper on each. It is easy to operate.
Now came the tricky part – actually sticking the paper to the brick. Starting at the top, I carefully taped the first section of paper to the brick, smoothing it out as I went. Let me tell you, brick is NOT a smooth surface, so there were definitely some bumps and wrinkles. But I just kept telling myself, “It’s rustic! It’s charming!”
I continued this process, section by section, overlapping the paper slightly to make sure there were no gaps. The corners were the biggest pain, I’m not gonna lie. It took some folding, trimming, and a whole lot of tape to get them looking halfway decent.
The Final Result
So, after a couple of hours of measuring, cutting, and taping, was it worth it? Honestly… yeah, kinda! It’s definitely not perfect. There are some wrinkles, and the seams are visible if you look closely. But overall, it gave my fireplace a totally new look for, like, ten bucks and a few hours of my time.
It’s a super temporary fix, obviously. I don’t expect this to last forever, but it’s a fun way to change things up for a holiday or a party, or just to satisfy a decorating itch without spending a ton of money. If you’re thinking about trying it, I say go for it! Just be prepared for a little bit of a messy process, and don’t expect perfection. Embrace the “rustic charm”!
