Okay, so today I wanted to figure out how many bricks I needed for this wall I’m building in my backyard. I’m no expert, just a regular guy trying to do some DIY, so I needed a simple way to calculate this. I found this thing called a “brick mortar calculator” and thought I’d give it a shot. Here’s how it went:
Getting Started
First, I grabbed my measuring tape. I needed to know the size of the wall I was planning. I measured the length and the height, writing them down on a scrap piece of paper so I wouldn’t forget. Gotta have those numbers!

Finding the Calculator
Next, I hopped on my computer and searched for a “brick mortar calculator”. There are a bunch of these things online, so I just picked one that looked pretty straightforward. I’m not a fan of complicated stuff.
Putting in the Numbers
The calculator I found asked for a few things:
- Wall Length: This was the easy part, I just typed in the length I measured.
- Wall Height: Same here, I just plugged in the height.
- Brick Size: Then you will need to measure your brick’s length, heigh, and width.
- Mortar Joint Thickness: This one I wasn’t totally sure about. It’s basically the space between the bricks where the mortar goes. I just went with the standard recommendation of 10mm.
The Result!
After I entered all that, I hit the “Calculate” button (or whatever it was called). And boom! The calculator spit out the number of bricks I needed. It even told me how much mortar I should get. Pretty neat, huh?
My Thoughts
Honestly, it was way easier than I expected.I am very happy that i can do this easily. This calculator thing saved me a lot of guesswork and probably a few headaches.
