So, I was thinking about how to keep the brick walls of my house in good shape, you know? I mean, bricks are great and all, but they can get pretty messed up by the weather over time. I started looking into ways to protect them, and that’s when I stumbled upon this thing called “brick shield.”
What I Did
First, I did some digging around to see what this brick shield stuff was all about. Seems like it’s some kind of special coating that goes on your bricks to keep them safe from the elements. There are a few brands out there, but this one called “Rhino Shield” kept popping up, so I focused on that.
What I found out about Rhino Shield:
- It’s not just a regular paint. It’s this “elastomeric” thing, which I guess means it’s kind of stretchy and flexible.
- They say it’s got these special “resin layers” that make it super tough.
- It’s supposed to protect against moisture, mildew, and even that nasty bio-growth stuff.
How I Applied It
I watched some videos and read some guides on how to put this stuff on. It’s not as simple as just slapping it on with a brush. Here’s what I did:
- Cleaned the bricks: This was a pain, but I had to get all the dirt and grime off the bricks first. I used a pressure washer, which was kind of fun, actually.
- Prepped the surface: I had to make sure the bricks were totally dry before I could start. I also patched up any cracks or holes with some special filler they recommended.
- Applied the primer: Rhino Shield has its own primer that you gotta put on first. I used a roller for this and made sure to cover everything evenly.
- Sprayed on the Rhino Shield: This was the tricky part. I rented a special sprayer from a hardware store and carefully sprayed the coating onto the bricks. I had to do two coats to get the right thickness.
The Result
Honestly, it was a lot of work, but I think it was worth it. My brick walls look amazing now, and they feel really solid. It’s like they’ve got a suit of armor on or something. I’m not sure if it will really last as long as they say it will, but only time will tell, right?
I’m pretty happy with how it turned out, though. If you’re thinking about protecting your brick walls, I’d say this Rhino Shield stuff is definitely worth looking into. Just be prepared to put in some elbow grease, or hire someone who knows what they’re doing!
