Okay, so today I messed around with this brick silicone stuff, and let me tell you, it was a bit of a learning curve. I saw some cracks in my brick wall outside, and I thought, “Hey, I can fix that!” So, I grabbed some silicone sealant from the store – apparently, it’s good for brick exteriors, or so I read.
First off, I cleaned the area around the cracks. I got rid of all the loose bits and dust ’cause you want the silicone to stick to something solid, right? I just used an old brush and some water. Nothing fancy.
Then came the tricky part – applying the silicone. I cut the tip of the sealant tube, trying to get the right angle, and then I loaded it into the caulking gun. I started squeezing the silicone into the cracks. It wasn’t as smooth as I hoped. I mean, I got silicone everywhere! My hands, the bricks, even my dog got a little bit on his tail when he came to inspect.
Smooth it out
- Tried to smooth it out with my finger, like I saw in some video, and maybe I used too much, but there is a lot of silicone on the bricks now. It is protecting against moisture, I am sure, but it looks like my dog can be an artist now.
- Waited for it to dry, which felt like forever. I kept checking every hour.
- Realized that silicone doesn’t really create a solid barrier. It lets the water vapor pass through. That is good.
In the end, the cracks are filled, that’s for sure. But it’s not pretty. I guess that’s okay for now. It’s supposed to be good for keeping water out, which is the main thing, I guess. They say it’s durable and functional, this silicone stuff. Next time, I might just call someone who knows what they’re doing. Or maybe I’ll get better with practice. Who knows? Anyway, that’s my silicone adventure for today. A bit messy, a bit clumsy, but hey, the wall’s sealed!
