Okay, so I’ve been wanting a fire pit in my backyard forever, but those fancy store-bought ones? Way too expensive. I saw some folks online using bricks to make a simple fire ring, and I thought, “I can totally do that!”
Getting Started
First, I headed to the local hardware store and grabbed a bunch of those basic red landscaping bricks. I think I got like, 40 of them? Didn’t really measure, just eyeballed it.
The Build
I cleared a spot in the yard, making sure there weren’t any low-hanging branches or anything that could catch fire. Safety first, you know?
Then, I just started laying the bricks in a circle. No fancy mortar or anything, just stacking them on top of each other. I made sure to stagger the joints, like how you see bricks in a wall, so it would be a little sturdier. It’s pretty intuitive to find the balance.
- Layer 1: I laid out the first layer, kind of dry-fitting it to get the size right.
- Layer 2: Staggered the bricks and built it up.
- Layer 3: More stacking!
I think I ended up with three layers of bricks. It’s not super tall, but it’s definitely enough to contain a decent fire.
The Finished Product
Honestly, it was way easier than I expected. The whole thing took me, like, an hour, maybe? And it looks pretty good! It’s rustic, sure, but it totally does the job. Plus, I saved a ton of money compared to buying a pre-made fire pit.
I built my first fire in it that night, and it was awesome. Just sitting there, watching the flames, with some friends. Perfect!
