Alright, let’s talk about this… uh… brick thingy, yeah, brick lattice. Sounds fancy, don’t it? But it ain’t that complicated, ya know. It’s just bricks, put together in a way that makes ’em look like a… a net, kinda. Or a fence, but with holes in it. You get the picture?
So, why do folks use this brick lattice stuff? Well, first off, it looks kinda nice, I guess. Makes the house look… different. Not like them boring ol’ brick walls everyone else has. You know, the ones that look like a big, red box? This brick lattice thing, it’s got holes, so it lets the air in. Good for keepin’ the house cool in the summer, I reckon. My old house, it gets hotter than a furnace in July, wish we had some of them holes.
Now, how do they make this here brick lattice? It ain’t rocket science, that’s for sure. They take bricks, see? And they stick ’em together with that… uh… cement stuff. Mortar, they call it. But they don’t just slap ’em together all willy-nilly. They gotta have a plan, a pattern, ya know? Like when you’re knittin’ a sweater, you gotta follow the pattern, or it’ll look a mess. Same thing with the bricks.
- First, they lay down some bricks in a line.
- Then, they leave a space.
- Then, they put down another brick.
- And they keep doin’ that, over and over, till they got a whole wall of bricks with holes in it.
Sometimes, they use different kinds of bricks. Some are red, some are brown, some are even white. And sometimes, they make the holes different sizes. Big holes, small holes, it all depends on what they want it to look like. I saw one house, they had bricks that were all different colors, and the holes were all different sizes. Looked like a patchwork quilt, almost. Not my cup of tea, but hey, to each their own.
This brick lattice thing, it ain’t just for looks, though. It’s also pretty strong. Bricks are heavy, ya know? And when you stick ’em together with that mortar stuff, they become even stronger. So, a brick lattice wall, it can hold up a roof just fine. And it can keep out the wind and the rain, mostly. Of course, if it’s rainin’ sideways, you might get a little water in through the holes, but that’s what windows are for, right? To keep the rain out. Though sometimes, my windows leak too, especially when it storms hard, makes a real mess.
Now, some folks, they get all fancy with their brick lattice. They start usin’ different shapes and sizes of bricks. They make curves and arches and all sorts of crazy designs. I saw one house, it had a brick lattice wall that looked like a giant flower. Pretty impressive, I gotta say. But me, I like the simple stuff. Just plain ol’ bricks, laid out in a straight line. That’s good enough for me.
They call it masonry, you know? All that brick and stone stuff. And they got all sorts of fancy names for the cement, too. Masonry cement, they call it. And the bricks themselves, they call ’em masonry units. Sounds like somethin’ from a city slicker, all them fancy words. Back in my day, we just called ’em bricks, and that was that. But I guess times change, huh?
So, there you have it. Brick lattice in a nutshell. It’s just bricks with holes in ’em, arranged in a pattern. Looks nice, keeps the house cool, and it’s strong enough to hold up a roof. What more could you want? Oh yeah, and it keeps the critters out too. We had a rat problem once, them pesky things sneakin’ into the pantry. But after we got the brick lattice fixed up, they couldn’t get in anymore. Served ’em right, I say.
So if you’re thinking about buildin’ somethin’ or fixin’ up your place, maybe think about usin’ this here brick lattice. It might be just the ticket. And don’t let them city folk fool you with all their fancy words. It’s just bricks, plain and simple, put together in a smart way. And that’s all there is to it. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on my garden. Them tomatoes ain’t gonna water themselves, ya know.
