So, I needed some cheap bricks for a little project I’ve been working on. I’m not building a whole house or anything, just a small wall in my backyard. I didn’t want to spend a fortune, so I started hunting for deals.
Step 1: Hit Up the Local Stores
First, I checked out the big home improvement stores near me. You know, the usual suspects. I strolled through the aisles, looking at their brick selections. They had some decent options, but the prices were a bit higher than I was hoping for. I jotted down some notes about the types and prices they had, just to have a baseline.
Step 2: Check Out Online Listings
Next, I figured I’d try my luck online. I searched for “cheap bricks near me” and a bunch of websites popped up. Some were online marketplaces, and others were the websites of brick suppliers I hadn’t heard of before.
- Found some interesting stuff on Wickes and B&Q: They have a variety of bricks, blocks, and lintels, and it looks like they sometimes have sales.
- Brick Express’s website: It says they deliver nationwide in the UK and usually by the next day. Pretty cool, but I’m not sure if they’re close enough for me.
- The Mick George Group: They stock bricks from a bunch of manufacturers, like Fonterra, LBC, Wienerberger, London, and Ibstock.
Step 3: Call Around
I grabbed my phone and started calling some of the places that looked promising. I mostly talked to sales guys who gave me quotes over the phone. Some places were willing to work with me on price, especially if I bought a larger quantity. I made sure to ask about delivery fees too, because those can really add up.
Step 4: Visit Some Yards
After all that, I decided to actually visit a couple of the brickyards in person. I wanted to see the bricks up close and get a feel for the quality. Plus, I figured I might be able to negotiate a better deal face-to-face. Some places had piles of leftover or slightly imperfect bricks that they were selling at a discount. That’s exactly what I was looking for!
Step 5: Make a Decision
Finally, I found a local supplier that had exactly what I needed at a price I could afford. They had some surplus red clay bricks that were in great shape. They weren’t perfect, but for my little wall, they were just fine. I talked to the guy at the counter, and he gave me a pretty good deal since I was buying a decent amount.
So, that’s how I scored some cheap bricks for my project. It took a bit of legwork, but it was worth it to save some cash. Now I can finally get that wall built!
