Okay, so I’ve always wanted a fire pit in my backyard. You know, for those cool evenings, roasting marshmallows, and just chilling with friends. I finally decided to just go for it. The project title? “Bricks for a fire pit”. Sounds simple enough, right?
Getting Started
First things first, I picked a spot. It needed to be away from the house, trees, anything that could catch fire. Safety first, people!

Then, I grabbed a shovel and started digging. I made a circular hole, about 6 inches deep. This was going to be the base for my fire pit.
Laying the Foundation
Next up, I poured in some gravel. This is important for drainage, so the fire pit doesn’t turn into a muddy mess after it rains. I leveled it out with a rake, making sure it was nice and even.
Building the Walls
Now for the fun part – the bricks! I chose some classic red bricks that I thought looked pretty good. I started laying them around the edge of the circle, one by one. No mortar or anything, just stacking them up. It’s like building with giant LEGOs!
- First layer: I made sure the first layer was perfectly level. This is super important, because if this layer is off, the whole thing will be wobbly.
- Second layer: I staggered the bricks, so the seams didn’t line up. This makes the walls stronger.
- Keep going: I kept adding layers until the fire pit was the height I wanted, about three layers high.
The Finishing Touches
Almost there! I added a layer of sand on top of the gravel, inside the fire pit. This helps to protect the bricks from the heat of the fire.
And that’s it! My very own DIY fire pit. It wasn’t too hard, and it looks awesome. I can’t wait to have my first fire in it!
Built it, tested it, and now I’m enjoying it. Time for some s’mores!
