Alright, let’s talk about them faux brick arches, you know, the fake brick kind. Folks are makin’ ’em all over the place now, inside their houses and outside too. I seen some pictures, and they look right purdy, I tell ya.
Now, first thing you gotta do is figure out where you want this arch thingy. Maybe a doorway? Maybe a window? Heck, maybe you just want a fancy lookin’ spot in your livin’ room. You measure that spot real good, ya hear? Don’t want no crooked arch, makes the whole place look like a dog’s breakfast.
Then, you gotta get yourself some stuff. Cardboard, that’s a good one. Thick kind, like what them big boxes come in. You cut that cardboard into brick shapes. Not too big, not too small. Like a real brick, you know? And don’t make ’em all square and perfect neither. Real bricks ain’t perfect, so your fake ones shouldn’t be neither. Round them corners a bit, just like the real ones.
Stacking the cardboard is a good idea too. Makes them bricks look solid, not flimsy. Two pieces glued together should do the trick. And you gotta use some good glue, the kind that holds tight. Don’t want them bricks fallin’ off, that’d be a mess.
Now, you start gluin’ them bricks to the wall, or whatever you’re makin’ the arch on. Leave a little space between each brick, that’s for the “mortar,” you know, the stuff that holds real bricks together. You can buy that stuff at the store, or you can make your own. I heard tell some folks use joint compound, but I dunno nothin’ about that fancy stuff. I reckon some good ol’ mud might do the trick too, if you’re feelin’ country.
- Cut the cardboard.
- Stack the cardboard pieces.
- Glue the cardboard pieces together.
- Glue the “bricks” to the wall.
- Add the “mortar.”
Once all them bricks is glued on, you gotta let it dry. Don’t go pokin’ at it, ya hear? Let it sit overnight, maybe even longer if it’s damp out. Patience is a virtue, my grandma used to say.
After it’s dry, you can paint them bricks. Brick color, of course. Unless you want a crazy lookin’ arch, then go ahead and paint it purple, I don’t care. But most folks like the brick color. You can get that paint at the store too. And you can use one of them sponge thingies to make it look bumpy like a real brick. That’s what them fancy folks do, I hear.
Making it look old is another thing you can do. You can take some sandpaper and rough up the edges a bit. Makes it look like it’s been there a while, you know? Like an old farmhouse or somethin’. I seen some folks use a dark wash too, makes the bricks look dirty and aged. But don’t overdo it, ya don’t want it lookin’ like it’s about to fall apart.
And there you have it, a faux brick arch. Sounds fancy, but it ain’t so hard. Just takes a little time and effort. And it can make your house look a whole lot nicer. Makes folks think you got money, even if you don’t. Ha!
I tell ya, these young folks, they always comin’ up with new ways to make things look pretty. Back in my day, we just had plain ol’ walls, no fancy arches or nothin’. But I gotta say, these brick arches, they do add a nice touch. Makes a place feel cozy, ya know? Like you could just sit down with a cup of coffee and a good book and forget all your troubles.
So, if you’re thinkin’ about addin’ a little somethin’ special to your home, give this faux brick arch thing a try. It ain’t rocket science, and it sure beats lookin’ at a plain ol’ wall all day long. And if you mess up, well, nobody’s gonna know but you. Just tear it down and start over. That’s what I always say, ain’t no shame in tryin’ again.
And remember, measure twice, cut once. That’s what my grandpa used to say. He was a carpenter, you know, built all kinds of things. And he always said, measure twice, cut once. Good advice, that is, even if you’re just workin’ with cardboard and glue.
Now get to workin’ and make yourself a purdy arch! You’ll be proud of yourself, I guarantee it. And if you ain’t, well, you can always call me and I’ll come over and help ya. I ain’t got nothin’ better to do anyway. Just bring some sweet tea and we’ll get ‘er done.
