Okay, so I’ve been messing around with some home improvement stuff lately, and I got this idea to build a small partition wall in my basement. I wanted something that looked cool but also had some safety features, so I started looking into fire-resistant glass bricks. Here’s how the whole thing went down.
Getting Started
First, I spent a good chunk of time just browsing online, trying to figure out what kinds of fire-resistant glass bricks were even out there. I found a few different types, some were solid blocks, others were hollow, and the fire ratings varied quite a bit. It was a little overwhelming at first!

Choosing the Right Bricks
After a bunch of comparing, I decided to go with solid glass bricks that had a pretty high fire rating – better safe than sorry, right? I also made sure to check the size and weight, because, you know, I had to actually lift and install these things.
The Build Process
Building with glass bricks is a bit different than regular bricks. I learned that you can’t just slap them together with regular mortar. I had to get this special adhesive mortar that’s designed for glass.
- Mixing the mortar was kind of a pain. It’s super sticky!
- Laying the first row was the trickiest. I used a level to make absolutely sure it was perfectly straight.
- Then it was just a matter of stacking the bricks, spreading the mortar, and making sure everything was aligned.
- I used these little plastic spacers to keep the gaps between the bricks consistent.
Finishing Touches
After the mortar dried (which took a while!), I cleaned off any excess with a damp sponge. The glass bricks looked awesome – they let in a lot of light, but they also have this cool, textured look. And most importantly, I felt good knowing that I had added an extra layer of fire protection to my basement.
All and all, I think my partition wall is cool!
