Alright, so the other day I needed to cut some fire bricks for a project I was working on. Now, I’ve messed around with these bricks before, but this time I really wanted to do it right. Cutting fire bricks isn’t like cutting your regular old bricks, you know? They’re tougher and can be a real pain if you don’t know what you’re doing.
First off, I grabbed my safety glasses. Trust me, you don’t want any of that brick dust flying into your eyes. It’s nasty stuff. Then I put on some gloves, just to keep my hands from getting all scratched up. Safety first, always!
Next up, I had to decide how I was going to cut these bad boys. I remembered someone telling me that a circular saw works pretty well, so I pulled mine out. I made sure to use a masonry blade – that’s the key. You gotta have the right blade, or you’re just going to make a mess.
The Cutting Part
Before I started cutting, I soaked the bricks in water for a bit. I heard this helps keep the dust down, and boy, was that a good tip! There was still some dust, but way less than I expected.
- Safety glasses on – check.
- Gloves on – check.
- Circular saw with masonry blade – check.
- Bricks soaked in water – check.
I started up the saw and slowly started cutting into the brick. It was surprisingly easy, actually. The saw went through the brick like butter. I made sure to take my time and not rush it. A steady hand is important here, or you could end up with a wonky cut or even worse, breaking a blade.
Once I made the first cut, I flipped the brick over and finished it off. A nice, clean cut, just like I wanted. I did the same thing with the rest of the bricks, and before I knew it, I was done.
Honestly, it was way easier than I thought it would be. As long as you have the right tools and take some basic safety precautions, cutting fire bricks is a piece of cake. Just remember to wear your safety gear, use the right blade, and soak those bricks! If I can do it, anyone can.
