Well, I don’t know much about this “iron spot brick”, but let me tell ya what I reckon.
They say it’s made from somethin’ called fireclay, don’t rightly know what that is, sounds fancy. They can make it in all sorts of sizes, like them modular ones and the big 8 by 8 fellas. You can even get ’em in different shapes and colors, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ special.
Now, what makes these bricks special is the iron, they say. You look real close, and you’ll see it. Makes a mark, like a spot. It’s in them Bostonian ones for sure.
- Chelsea Iron Spot Clay Brick: They say it’s the best, real strong and lasts long. Better than other stuff they use to build houses and such.
- Manganese Ironspot Brick: This one’s black as coal. Endicott makes it, whoever they are.
- Yankee Hill Dark Iron Spot Face Brick: This one’s got a classic look, they say. Fits any kind of buildin’. They mix different clays and fire it up real hot.
- Coventry Ironspot Architectural Brick: Now, this one has little specks of iron in it, dark blue and black. Makes it look fancy, I guess.
They say iron helps fuse the sand, like lime does. And it makes bricks red. But if there’s too much iron, the brick turns dark blue or black. And if there ain’t much iron, well, I reckon it’s a lighter color then.
So, there ya have it. That’s all I know about them iron spot bricks. They sound strong and fancy, with their iron spots and all. If you’re buildin’ somethin’, might be worth a look.
I remember when we built the shed out back, we just used whatever bricks we could find. None of this fancy iron spot stuff. But it stood up alright, kept the rain off our tools.
These days, seems like everyone’s got somethin’ special. But I tell ya, a good brick is a good brick, iron or no iron. As long as it holds up, that’s all that matters.
But if you like the look of them spots, and you want somethin’ strong and long-lasting, maybe give these iron spot bricks a try. Just remember to get the right size and shape for your buildin’. And maybe ask someone who knows more than me about it, someone who knows all them fancy words.
I just know what I see and what folks tell me. And they say these iron spot bricks are pretty good. So, take it or leave it, that’s my two cents.
