Okay, so today I want to talk about something that I’ve been messing around with lately – firebricks. You know, those bricks that can handle super high temperatures? I needed some for a project, and I figured I’d share my little adventure of getting them from Tractor Supply.
First off, I had to figure out what exactly I needed. I mean, there are a bunch of different types of firebricks out there. After reading up a bit, I learned there are these “hard bricks” and “soft bricks.” The hard ones are tough cookies, really dense and good for building stuff like kilns. Soft bricks are more for insulation.
I decided to go to Tractor Supply because I heard they carry them. I strolled into the store, feeling like a real DIYer, and went to the section with all the stove stuff. Lo and behold, there they were – firebricks! They had these medium-duty ones, 9 x 4-1/2 x 1-1/4 inches. They said they could withstand up to 2000F, which sounded pretty good to me.
Now, I had a bit of cleanup to do before I could use them. I pulled out some old, cracked bricks from what I was working on. Just used my fingers and a screwdriver to pry them out, no biggie. Then I vacuumed the area to get all the little bits and pieces out.
They were selling for $2.39 each, which seemed like a decent deal. I grabbed a few, feeling pretty proud of myself. But I noticed online that some other places, like Menards, have ceramic ones. I heard that each of them has its own pros and cons. I guess it depends on what you’re using them for, right?
Anyway, I got my firebricks home and started working on my project. They worked like a charm! Super easy to use, and they held up to the heat like champs. I was pretty stoked with how everything turned out.
- Step 1: Figured out what type of firebrick I needed.
- Step 2: Went to Tractor Supply and found the right size.
- Step 3: Cleaned up the area where I was going to use them.
- Step 4: Bought the firebricks and brought them home.
- Step 5: Used them in my project, and they worked great!
So yeah, that’s my little story about getting firebricks from Tractor Supply. If you ever need some, that’s one place to check out. Just make sure you know what kind you need, and you’re good to go. And watch out for the differences between the clay ones and ceramic ones.
