Alright, let’s jaw about them New Orleans bricks, you know, the ones they use to build stuff.
I ain’t no fancy architect or nothin’, but I know a thing or two about bricks. Seen enough houses and walls in my day, that’s for sure. These New Orleans bricks, they’re somethin’ special, they say. Folks yap about how old they are, some from way back when, like the 1700s and 1800s. Can you believe it? That’s older than my grandma’s grandma, I reckon!
They call some of them walls “load-bearing.” Sounds mighty important, huh? Means them bricks is holdin’ the whole darn building up. That’s some strong bricks, I tell ya. And they made ‘em right here in New Orleans, or so they say. Not shipped in from some fancy-pants place overseas.
Now, you wanna get your hands on these old bricks? Well, it ain’t always easy. They call ‘em “reclaimed bricks” when they take ‘em from old buildings. But you gotta watch out, ‘cause the price ain’t always the same. It all depends on how many they got, what kind of shape they’re in, and if they’re the kinda bricks everybody wants. You know, like them rare ones. If everyone’s lookin’ for ‘em, you gonna pay more, that’s just how it is.
- Price: It ain’t set in stone, honey. Depends on how many they got and how good they look.
- Condition: Beat-up bricks ain’t worth as much as the pretty ones.
- Rarity: Them hard-to-find bricks? Gonna cost you a pretty penny.
There’s this place, New Orleans Brick & Stone. Sounds like they got a whole heap of bricks. Probably got all kinds, from the plain ones to the fancy ones. I bet they got enough to build a whole city, if you wanted to. They sell ‘em for all sorts of things, like buildin’ houses and makin’ them pretty walkways, what they call “pavers.”
Some folks even call them big walls in New Orleans the “Great Wall.” Ain’t no China wall, mind you, but it’s somethin’ special all the same. Made of them old bricks, standin’ tall and strong. Makes you wonder how them fellas back then did it, liftin’ all them heavy bricks. Musta been strong as oxen, I tell ya.
So, if you’re lookin’ to build somethin’ or fix somethin’ up, them New Orleans bricks might be just the ticket. Just remember, you gotta do your homework. Find out what kind you need, what kind you can afford, and where to get ‘em. And don’t be afraid to haggle a little. Them brick sellers, they expect it, you know.
And another thing, them soft red bricks, they’re somethin’ special too. Got a nice warm color, not like them cold, gray ones. Makes a house look homey, if you know what I mean. I seen some houses built with them soft red bricks, and they just look…right. Like they belong there.
Anyways, that’s about all I know about them New Orleans bricks. They’re old, they’re strong, and they got character. Just like me, I reckon. Maybe a little rough around the edges, but sturdy and reliable. Just like a good brick wall, huh?
Now, you go on and do your own research. Don’t just take my word for it. But I tell you what, them New Orleans bricks are somethin’ else. They got history, they got charm, and they got staying power. And that’s more than you can say for some things these days, that’s for sure.
