Okay, so I wanted to share my experience with getting fire bricks from Rural King. I needed some for my wood-burning stove, cause, you know, they wear out after a while. I heard Rural King was a good place to get ’em, plus I saw online they had these Grenheat bricks that were supposed to be a good deal.
First off, I went to the Rural King store. It’s kind of like a farmer’s supply store. They’ve got everything from tractor parts to clothes to, you guessed it, fire bricks. I found the Grenheat bricks pretty easily.
Here’s what I noticed right away:
- They come in packs of 20.
- Each pack was about 40 pounds.
- The price was decent, $4.49 a pack when I bought them, but I see they might be $5.99 now. Prices change, you know.
I ended up grabbing a few packs because my stove is pretty big. Loading them into my truck was a bit of a workout, those things are heavy! But hey, that’s a good sign, right? Means they’re dense and should last.
Once I got home, I started replacing the old bricks in my stove. These Grenheat bricks are a little smaller than some others, but that worked out fine for me since I usually build smaller fires anyway. They were simple to stack. You can stack them like a wall, or if you’re feeling fancy, make a little teepee to get the fire started.
I’ve been using these bricks for a few weeks now, and so far, so good. They seem to be holding up well. They do a good job of keeping the heat in, which is what you want. I’ve heard that if fire bricks turn pink, it means your stove is getting too hot, but mine haven’t done that.
Overall, I’m happy with my purchase. The Grenheat bricks from Rural King are a good value for the money. They’re easy to find, easy to use, and they seem to be pretty durable. If you need fire bricks, I’d say it’s worth checking them out.
Just a couple of extra things I found out while I was researching these:
- Apparently, Rural King imports tractors from China. Who knew?
- There’s another brand, US Stove, that makes fire bricks too, but I haven’t tried those.
- High-quality fire bricks are often made of refractory clay. The better quality materials, the higher the price.
Anyways, that’s my story about getting fire bricks from Rural King. Hope it helps someone out there!
