Alright, let’s talk about them brick things, you know, the ones they use to build houses and stuff. I don’t know all them fancy words, but I know a thing or two about what makes a good brick, ya hear?
Strong like an ox, that’s what a brick needs to be. If it ain’t strong, what good is it? The whole house gonna come tumblin’ down, just like that old barn did last winter. So, strength, that’s number one, the most important thing.
Then there’s how long it lasts. Them city folks call it “durability,” but I just say it gotta last a good long time. Sun beatin’ down on it, rain pourin’ on it, snow freezin’ on it – a good brick takes it all and keeps on standin’. You don’t want your house fallin’ apart after a few years, do ya?
And fire, gotta think about fire. A good brick don’t catch fire easy. Keeps your house safe, keeps you safe. That’s important, real important. We had that fire down the road last year, took out the whole Johnson place. Bad business, that was.
- What they’re made of: Most bricks, they’re made of clay, that mud stuff. They bake it real hot, makes it hard. Some other bricks, they call ’em blocks, they’re made of somethin’ else, like cement or somethin’. I ain’t too sure about them, but the clay ones, them’s the real deal.
- Water test: You wanna know if a brick’s good, you gotta see how much water it soaks up. Take a dry brick, weigh it, then dunk it in water for a while. Weigh it again. If it gets too heavy, like way heavier, that ain’t good. Means it soaks up too much water, and that’s bad news.
- Color: The color, it tells ya somethin’ too. A good brick, it’s got a nice even color, all the way through. Means it was cooked right, not too hot, not too cold. Like a good loaf of bread, gotta be just right.
Now, there’s different kinds of bricks, you know. Some are just plain ol’ bricks, used for regular walls and stuff. Then there’s fancy ones, for fancy folks, I guess. But a brick’s a brick, long as it’s strong and lasts long, that’s what matters. They should be well-burnt, and not have cracks in them neither. And they should have nice sharp edges, not all beat up and rounded.
How they’re made is important too, they say table-moulded bricks is the best kind. And when they bake ‘em, gotta make sure they do it right, so they don’t crack or crumble.
So, that’s what I know about them bricks. Strong, last long, don’t burn easy, and don’t soak up too much water. Keep them things in mind, and you’ll be alright. Building a house, or just lookin’ at one, them bricks are important. They hold the whole thing together, ya know?
And remember, uniform color that’s bright and even is real important too, just like I said before. It shows everything was done right.
Anyways, that’s enough talkin’ about bricks for one day. I gotta go feed them chickens. Them birds are always hungry, just like my grandbabies.
