Well, let me tell you about them brick thingies, you know, the ones they use to build houses and stuff. I ain’t no fancy engineer or nothin’, but I know a thing or two ‘bout bricks, seen enough houses bein’ built in my time.
First off, they gotta be strong, real strong. You don’t want no flimsy bricks, ya hear? Them houses gotta stand up to the wind and the rain and whatever else comes along. They say “durability,” yeah, that’s the word. Them bricks better last, or what’s the point, right?
- They gotta be tough, can’t crumble easy.
- Gotta hold up the roof and everything else.
Then there’s this water thing. Bricks, they can’t be soakin’ up water like a sponge. That ain’t good. If they do, when winter comes and it freezes, them bricks gonna crack and break. They call it somethin’ fancy, “low porosity” I think. Means they ain’t got many holes for water to get in, makes sense, right? So, good bricks, they don’t drink up too much water.
And another thing, you don’t want no noisy house, right? So, them bricks, they gotta keep the sound out, or at least some of it. Like, if your neighbor’s dog is barkin’ all night, you don’t wanna hear it so loud, you know? So, good bricks, they kinda muffle the noise. They call it “sound insulation,” sounds fancy, but it just means quiet, mostly.
Now, they got all sorts of bricks, different colors, different sizes. Some are smooth, some are rough. You gotta pick the right ones for what you’re buildin’. Big bricks for big walls, small bricks for small walls, I guess. And the color, well, that’s up to you, whatever you like the looks of. But make sure they strong, that’s what matters most.
Some bricks are made of concrete, they say them are strong too. And they keep the house warm in the winter and cool in the summer, or so they say. I ain’t never lived in a concrete house, so I can’t say for sure. But them concrete bricks, they seem alright. They say they got good “thermal properties,” that means they good for keepin’ the heat and cold where they belong.
I remember when old man Johnson built his house, he used them real pretty red bricks. Took him forever, but that house, it stood there for years, strong as a rock. That’s what you want, a house that lasts. So, when you’re pickin’ out bricks, don’t just go for the prettiest ones, make sure they the strong ones, the ones that ain’t gonna fall apart on ya. And don’t forget about the water thing, important that is. You don’t want your house turnin’ into a leaky bucket, do ya?
And one more thing, they say bricks should be hard and dense, packed tight you see. Makes em tougher I guess. They do some test too, put the bricks in water for a whole day, see if they get too heavy. I don’t know much about them tests, I never done them myself, but seems important to make sure them bricks are good quality before you start buildin’ something big.
So there you have it, a little bit ‘bout bricks. Like I said, I ain’t no expert, but I know enough. You get yourself some good strong bricks, the kind that don’t drink too much water and keep the noise out, you’ll have a good house that’ll last you a long time. That’s the most important thing, a good strong house.
