Okay, here’s my blog post about replacing the firebricks in my wood stove:
Alright, folks, gather ’round the digital campfire, because today we’re talking about something near and dear to my heart – my trusty wood stove. It’s been keepin’ my place warm for years, but those firebricks inside? Well, they’d seen better days. Cracked, crumbling, basically lookin’ like they’d lost a fight with a sledgehammer. Time for some DIY action!

Getting Started
First things first, I let that stove cool down completely. Don’t even THINK about messing with it while it’s hot. Common sense, people! Once it was cool enough to touch, I opened up the door and started assessing the damage. Yep, those bricks were toast.
I put my gloves, and saftey glasses on.
Out with the Old
- I carefully took out all removable parts of the stove, the ash pan, the grates.
- I simply grabbed each broken brick and pulled it out. Some were in pieces, others were stubbornly stuck. For the stuck ones, a little tap with a small hammer. Nothing crazy, just enough to loosen them up.
Prepping the New Bricks
I’d already gone and bought replacement bricks from online store. Make sure you get the right size! I laid them out on the floor, kinda like a puzzle, to figure out how they’d fit in the stove.
In with the New
- Starting with the back of the stove, I carefully placed each new brick in its spot. It’s like building with LEGOs, but way more important.
- I made sure to position them with the smooth side of the bricks face the inside of the stove.
- I worked my way around, side to side, until the whole firebox was lined with shiny new bricks. No gaps, nice and snug.
I put back all parts that I took out from the stove.
The Finishing Touch
With all the new bricks in place, I gave everything a once-over. Made sure nothing was loose or wobbly. Then, I closed the stove door. Job done!
Honestly, it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. Just took a bit of patience and elbow grease. Now my wood stove is ready for another season of keeping me toasty warm. And hey, I saved myself a chunk of change by doing it myself. Win-win!

So there you have it. That is my experience of replace those firebricks. Hope you find it helpful!
