Okay, so I’ve always wanted a built-in grill in my backyard. You know, the kind that looks super fancy and makes you feel like a legit grill master? Well, I finally decided to just go for it. I picked “bricked in grill designs” because I love that classic, sturdy look.
First, I spent a ton of time just looking at pictures online. Trying to figure out what style I liked, what size would work in my yard, and all that stuff. Then I drew up some really rough sketches. I’m no artist, let me tell you, but it helped me visualize things.
Next up, I had to pick out the bricks. This was way harder than I thought it would be! So many colors, textures, sizes. I finally settled on a reddish-brown brick that I thought looked pretty good. And, of course, I grabbed a grill insert. I went with a simple charcoal one, ’cause I like that smoky flavor.
Getting My Hands Dirty
Then came the actual building part. I cleared out a spot in my backyard, leveled the ground which was a total pain, and laid down a concrete slab for the base. Let me tell you, mixing and pouring concrete is no joke! I was sore for days.
After the concrete dried, I started laying the bricks. I used mortar to stick ’em together. That was a whole other learning curve. Getting the mortar just the right consistency, laying the bricks evenly, it was tough! But I slowly got the hang of it.
- Layered the bricks, row by row.
- Checked if they were level every so often.
- Made adjustments with a rubber mallet.
I built up the walls, leaving a space for the grill insert, and added a little countertop area on the side. I even threw in a couple of shelves underneath for storage. It took a few weekends, but I finally finished the brick structure.
The Big Moment
Finally, I slid the grill insert into place. It fit perfectly! Then I fired it up, threw some burgers on, and boom! My very own bricked-in grill.
It wasn’t perfect. Some of the bricks are a little uneven, and the mortar lines could be cleaner. But you know what? I built it with my own two hands, and that’s a pretty awesome feeling. Plus, the burgers tasted amazing!
