Okay, so, I needed some fire bricks the other day. I was working on this project, you know, building a little outdoor oven. Nothing fancy, just wanted something where I could bake some bread, maybe roast a chicken, that sort of thing.
First off, I hopped online, just to get an idea of what was out there. Typed in “fire bricks” and got bombarded with all sorts of stuff. Forge High Density, US Stove Company, Imperial Firebrick, you name it. Prices were all over the place, from a few bucks to over fifty. Seemed like the price really depends on how pure the clay is. They use this refractory clay that can handle super high heat.
I found out there are two types of fire bricks, hard and soft * bricks are very dense and durable and used for their structural * bricks are used as insulation.
Then I started thinking about where to actually buy these things. My first thought was Lowe’s. They usually have everything, right? Checked their website, and sure enough, they had a decent selection. Plus, they were offering free shipping on orders over 45 bucks, which was tempting.
But then I figured, why not check out Walmart too? Sometimes they have surprising deals. So I went to their site, and yep, they had fire bricks too. One brand, Imperial, was rated for really high temperatures. They even had free shipping as well.
I even stumbled upon this site called . It had listings for brick dealers in Tampa. There were photos, reviews, phone numbers, and everything. So if I were in Tampa, that’d be a good place to look.
I remembered that my friend told me that he bought his bricks at Home Depot. So, I also went to Home Depot’s website and searched for fire bricks. I found Rutland fire bricks. The price was good.
I also considered Tractor Supply. Their fire bricks were rated as medium duty, up to 2700 degrees. And they had this high thermal shock resistance, which sounded pretty good. Their brand was Hy-C.
In the end, I actually found some at a local hardware store near me. I didn’t even think to check there first!
It was a bit of a journey, but I learned a lot about fire bricks. Turns out there are tons of options out there, and it really comes down to what you need them for and what your budget is.
- You can look online first to get an idea of prices and types.
- Big stores like Lowe’s, Walmart, Home Depot and Tractor Supply are good bets.
- Don’t forget to check local hardware stores.
Anyway, that’s my fire brick story. Hope it helps someone out there!
