A few days ago, I wanted to repair my fireplace. To be honest, I have never done such a thing before, so I really don’t know where to start. Then I just thought maybe I should try to get some firebricks. Then I started to search for what firebricks are, just to make sure I wouldn’t make things worse.
So, I learned there are actually two types of firebricks, hard ones and soft ones. The hard bricks are super dense and durable, often used for structural parts. You know, like in big kilns, chimneys, and fireboxes – basically anywhere that is around direct flame. I think that’s what I need.
Then I started to look for where to buy them. And I just found some sales contacts and get some product recommendations from them. It was quite easy to find them on the website.
After that, I looked at the colors. I found they come in several colors. The buff color is like a yellowish-white, and it’s pretty common. Red ones have flecks of buff and can vary from red to orange. There are also those with a dark red glaze, which are deep red. I ended up picking the red ones because they just look better with my fireplace.
- Buff — This yellow/white one.
- Red — This red one has some flecks of buff.
- Dark Red Glaze — Deep red one.
I bought a couple of red firebricks, and I also got some satin black heat-resistant paint for my stove. It’s scrubbable and stain-resistant, which is great. And also got some acrylic paint, just in case I want to get a little crafty. You know, just try to make the lounge look a little better. I also asked for a color consultation and got a free estimate, which was nice.
Finally, I used those firebricks to repair my fireplace. I just followed some basic instructions and patched up the broken parts. It wasn’t too hard, and it looks pretty good now. At first, I used some premium fire cement to fix the broken surface of my fireplace. I carefully applied the cement to the damaged areas, making sure to cover them completely. After the cement dried, I placed the red firebricks over the repaired sections. I arranged them tightly together to ensure a snug fit.
Overall, I am pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s not perfect, but it’s way better than before. Plus, I learned a few things along the way, which is always good.
