Okay, so I was thinking about doing some upgrades to my fireplace. It’s getting a bit old, and I wanted to make it safer and more efficient. I heard about these things called fireproof bricks, so I thought, why not give it a shot?
First, I looked around for places that sell these bricks. I found a couple of spots in San Francisco, like Building Resources and Fireclay Tile. There was also this place called Golden State Lumber and Broadmoor Landscape Supply. I even checked out Acapulco Rock and Soil, just to see what they had.
The Search
- Visited Building Resources – they had a few options, but I wasn’t quite sure.
- Checked Fireclay Tile – a bit pricey, but the quality looked good.
- Stopped by Golden State Lumber – mostly lumber, but they did have some bricks.
- Drove to Broadmoor Landscape Supply – more of a garden place, but I thought, why not?
- Looked into Acapulco Rock and Soil – they had some interesting stuff, too.
After looking around, I decided to go with Fireclay Tile. Their bricks looked really sturdy and were specifically made for high heat. The guy there told me they were dry-pressed clay bricks, which are perfect for fireplaces.
So, I bought the bricks and some other supplies I needed. Then, I went home and got started on the project. It was a bit of a challenge, but I managed to remove the old bricks from my fireplace. Then, carefully placed the new fireproof bricks in. It took some time, but I made sure each brick was properly set.
After finishing the installation, I let everything set for a day. Then, I lit a small fire to test it out. It worked great! The heat was well-contained, and it felt much safer.
Honestly, it was a bit of work, but totally worth it. My fireplace looks better, and I feel much more comfortable using it now. Plus, I learned a lot about fireproof bricks and how to install them. It’s a good feeling to do something yourself and see it turn out well.
