So, I’ve been messing around with making my own pottery lately, and I ran into this thing where I needed to get my hands on some grog brick aggregate. It’s basically ground-up fired clay that you mix into your clay body.
Why use it? Well, it’s supposed to make the clay easier to work with, stronger, and give it a bit of a textured look. Plus, it helps with keeping the clay from shrinking or warping too much when you fire it. Sounds good, right?
I started looking around, and man, it felt like there weren’t many places selling this stuff. First, I checked out some local places. But, no luck there. They had your usual clay and tools, but no grog.
Then, I thought, “Okay, time to hit up the internet.” I looked at some of the big construction aggregate suppliers. I found a company called GreenWaste in the Bay Area that offers some pretty good-quality construction aggregates. It seems that they are reliable.
After that, I went to a masonry supply center called Brickworks. I thought maybe they’d have it since they sell sand, mortar, and tools, which are also related to construction. They provide a variety of options to choose from. Fortunately, I found what I wanted at their store.
- Checked local pottery supply stores: Strike one.
- Searched online: Found some leads with big suppliers.
- Visited some construction material suppliers: Finally found what I needed!
- Checked the product carefully: I picked one and bought it.
Steps I Took:
And that’s pretty much it. Just sharing my little adventure in case any of you are also on the hunt for grog brick aggregate. Oh, and I also heard about Glen-Gery, which helps you to find a brick dealer near you. You can use their filtering system to find what you want, like clay brick or paver. They have various color and texture choices, too. Sounds great, right?
Hope this helps someone out there! It was a bit of a wild goose chase, but I finally got what I was after. Happy potting!
