Understanding the Composition of High Alumina Bricks

High alumina bricks are a kind of high-strength and high-temperature refractory bricks. They are widely used in the technical and environmental engineering fields, and can replace cast iron, type CF and BF steel furnace, blast furnace lining and other similar materials. The main raw materials of high alumina bricks are alumina powder, silicon carbide powder, iron ore, coal, and other raw materials. The manufacturing process of high alumina bricks is mainly divided into four steps: raw materials preparation, shaping, calcining, and sintering. First, raw materials need to be obtained in proper ratio, typically 1 : 4–6 for alumina powder and silicon carbide powder. Second, shaping is carried out by using a special mold to shape the raw materials into a specific shape, and then dried to make it convenient to handle. Finally, calcining is carried out in an high-temperature reducing environment under controlled temperature and pressure to transform the raw materials into a sintered product. After sintering, high alumina bricks can be obtained. The specific manufacturing process is as follows: raw materials preparation→ shaping→ drying→ calcining→ sintering→ cooling. High alumina bricks with high strength and high temperature resistance are generally composed of 45% to 75% alumina and 15% to 25% silicon carbide. They can be used in high-temperature environments, such as thermal control windows and internal hotheaters for blast furnaces and aluminum alloy casting molds.
